Born in 1956 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Antoine Hérouard studied at the French seminary in Rome and at the Pontifical Gregorian University. Ordained a priest in Paris in 1985, he held various posts in parishes and as a teacher. He was then general secretary of the French Bishops’ Conference from 2005 to 2013. In 2014, he became Rector of the French seminary in Rome.
In April 2017, he was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Lille in the Notre-Dame de la Treille cathedral. In 2019 Pope Francis appointed him as Apostolic Delegate for the Sanctuary of Lourdes.
In February 2022 Pope Francis nominated Mgr. Hérouard as Archbishop of Dijon (France).
He is Bishop Delegate of the French Bishops’ Conference to COMECE since November 2017. In the period 2018-2023 he served as President of the COMECE Social Affairs Commission. In March 2023, Mgr. Hérouard was elected First Vice-President of COMECE.
